I have a young blackbird which has a small twig going through the back of it's wing and looks like goes through side of body It is now fending for itself but cannot seem to fly not sure if I should try catch it but if I pulled twig out would it cause more damage

I think you certainly need professional help. You could try searching for a wildlife rescue centre near you HERE. If you happened to live in the Surrey area Wildlife Aid does great work.
