Odds & Sods 2025. Wildlife catchall

This Nuthatch was high up in a tree (40-50 feet) next to a footpath we walk along. It appeared to be feeding either on lichen or something in the lichen.

It's found something to eat

Further along branch, it appears to be looking for something to eat.

Got something!

  • From mild wet to freezing cold. A pleasant change to walk in glorious sunshine. Though birds remained under cover as much as possible. Heard lots, saw little.

Getting a bit desperate for a photo opportunity, this little feller obliged.

I'm depressed as it's soooo cold.

  • A short walk along the canal in Worcester - a grey heron in reflective mood, a plump song thrush and then, delightfully, a kingfisher who sat for a while, wondering whether to break the ice on the surface of the water

  • Picking at the frozen undergrowth in the local valley this morning.

  • At least one Coal tit visits our garden regularly. It or they are normally part of a mixed flock of tits. This year, I have been noticing a singleton; flying on its own. I finally managed to photograph this flighty creature. Coal tits don't tend to stay still for very long, unlike blue and long-tailed tits.

The usual dull, overcast weather, and shooting through two panes of manky glass.

A Great Spotted Woodpecker flies here to eat peanuts. There will be residue in the cracks. The Coal tit hasn't figure out how to get peanuts from my feeder.

'Ah,' thinks an inscrutable Jay, 'I see you have photographed a Coal tit. Doesn't this Jay have a passing resemblance to the late, great Ronnie Barker?

The temperature was about -3.0C when this photo was taken. So the Jay is hunkered down and fluffed up to stay warm.

  • Great set Angus, love the hunkered down Jay Thumbsup

  • Think both myself and the Mink were taken by surprise with one another this morning when I visited our parkland bird hide !     It was very confident as it ambled closer.

Glad the birds are not breeding yet or it would have the eggs/chicks !
