Ferrybridge (5th Catch up) 29/11/2024

A gloomy but dry day forecast, and new confidence in noise reduction, and the sudden thought that if 800mm is good... 1120mm ( +1.4 tc) could be awesome... where best to test it.... Ferrybridge... little wadey birds and gulls flying miles away!! The route to the coast takes me by a deerpark, with a big lay by, so it's always rude not to stop there if the deer are visible

There are big boys

Little boys

Middle sized boys

Plain boys

And the "don't think I've forgotten you're there" boy!

Hopeful of how well they'd scrub up in post, I headed on down to Ferrybridge. It looked chilly, even through that car windscreen

And when I saw the corvid with a woolly hat on, I knew it was! (Not sure which one it is though!)

Surprise of the day was a Wheatear, scampering about the beach area

Before using a 1 inch high stone to increase his view as she called "I'm the queen of the castle"

And then flitting off to the car park wall

Overhead a Kestrel was making the most of the "breeze" (more later... stay tuned!)

Not sure whether the Carrotbill had twine or worm of some sort, hopefully the latter

There was a good selection of gulls of varying ages, Herring, Lesser and Greater Black Backed and Black Headed, with possibly Mediterranean thrown in for good measure

On the little wader front, there were Ringed Plover, Turnstones and some Dunlin, more Oystercatchers, and a pair of Bar Tailed Godwit, and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off in the distance a Red Breasted Merganser mini flock formed.

A pair of Pied Wagtail cavorted along the barrier to the road

A little further along, there were both Shags and Cormorants by the bridge, diving for food. I spent several minutes not managing to get the "diving" shot, but got quite close to the one I wanted...

It would be interesting to see how the pre-capture would work, as it's Jpeg only on Nikon, so the files would probably be really difficult to clean up to view/post

Meadow Pipit, as a vague hint of the yellow thing emerged

I was half hoping for winter divers in Portland Harbour, but no luck, instead a Great Crested Grebe presented itself

Walking back toward the car, the Kestrel popped up again

And the other Wagtail was on the handrail

The Godwits

And then the Kestrel came back over the road to the car park..

And so it ended!

Thanks for looking, sorry about the lack of blue skies this time!
