Hello, good afternoon, and welcome back
Trumpeter Swan
Phillipine Duck
Juvenile Moorhen (although it also looks similar to a different breed of non native Moorhen)
Magpie Goose
Chloe Wigeon... is the eye patch green, or blue?!
Goldeneye
Possibly a Scaly Sided Merganser..... but check out the hair!! (And nope, that's not one of my made up names!!)
Chinese Goose
Chloe back for more!
Possibly a female Hooded Merganser (at first I thought female Scaly Sided Merganser)
Bufflehead
Red Shoveler
White Headed Duck... I'm guessing it goes white in the breeding season?
I presume a Greylag, but it seemed small!
A male Hooded Merganser
Google Lens comes up with Wood Duck and Mandarin Duck... but I don't know about eclipse and juvenile and female plumages
Oh Chloe, I'm so beautiful.... Have you ever heard of Narcissus??
Biggest surprise of the day for me....
I'd never realised how big they are
Or how small these are, up close
Immature Scaly Sided Merganser (probably lol)
More Redshank shenanigans
You could have someone's eye out with that.... likely your own!!
Harlequin Duck
The other WWT places we'd been to had Eider Ducks (Mrs PB's favourites), but here they were Spectacled Eiders
A Common Scoter (I think) We get these autumn/winter in Poole Harbour, but how anyone can spot them from shore in the swell is beyond me!
Long Tailed Duck?
They are very strange looking birds!
And we were sent on our way by a shouty Herring Gull
And so concluded, in my view, a rather spectacular visit with a super range of birds, many of which we'd not seen.
Thanks for sticking with it if you've made it to the end!
Stay Safe All
Never seen a lot of them PB, looks a good place for a visit. Lovely photo's.
What interesting variety of birds and I see you've named the Chiloé wigeon Chloe That Pelican is magnificent, looks like he's the boss !! beautiful photo captures one and all. I do like the Buffleheads !
