We are currently staying in hawkshead in the lake district. I have now twice caught a fleeting glimpse of a very large bird of prey. Where I live we have a good population of kites and common buzzards, and this was definitely neither of those. It is much larger than a kite, with probably a 2-2.5m wing span and much larger/longer body. It also had a fan tail, but again was much larger than a common buzzard.
All I have is this terrible rushed shot of it flying away. I've had people swear blind it's a kite and/or common buzzard, but it is definitely neither because of its size. I've looked all over, and the only thing that matches size, tail and wing pattern is a golden eagle. But obviously that's going to be hard to confirm, and near on impossible in this area???
Any thoughts welcome
