It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Thank you Wendy. The majority of my photos are taken from my garden. I don’t seem to venture out much. Glad to say a few more Butterflies are making their way here now, thank goodness. Hoping to get out soon to my nearest RSPB nature reserve, Frampton Marsh.
Same here Ed, sun is out and the butterflies with it, I planted more buddleias a couple of years ago making a lovely pathway for them plus have a lovely stand of nettles hidden at the back to encourage eggs & larvae!
Photo's taken today at RSPB Sandy.
Moth Agriphila inquinatella:
Brimstone Butterfly - My 25th species for this year:
Photo taken today at RSPB Sandy.
Small Copper - Form caeruleopunctata - With a row of blue dots on the hindwing ?:
Lovely shot Snappy... according to my book "This species is prone to variation, and a blue-spotted form called caeruleopunctata is often found, particularly in Scotland, but occasionally anywhere" Worth sending pic and location to county observer/ butterfly conservation
Thanks PB, I will do. Can't say I have noticed one before.
