It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

It would have been much less obvious if it weren't very central in the image? Took me less than a second to find it.
:)
Thanks Germain
Nice selection Germain. I am still looking for Brown Argos, last year it was very common. As for the Common Blue, I only saw one last year, none yet this year.
Wonderful stuff Cin. Love the Green Hairstreak, that I have never seen, and the wonderful colour of the Common Blue - which is not common around here - I have only seen one or two ...
Photo taken today at Wimpole Estate NT.
Vapourer Moth (Orgyia antiqua) Caterpillar:
Certainly is SM ... the animated toothbrush!!
Have raised many of these from eggs laid by wingless female!
Thanks Wendy. That's interesting, I didn't know the female was wingless.
Well captured Snappy. Looks like someone has been feeding it sweetcorn ...
She's very round & quite unattractive, quite different to the male, she's just an egg machine who dies not long after laying her eggs ...
