It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Well Thank you pleased you liked it MrsEd

That's a great moth ILR, google thinks Poplar hawk-moth.
Excellent photos of a Poplar Hawkmoth IRL - Lunar underwings have the same body shape as all the other underwings

Many thanks Cin J it was on my doorstep and flew off into the garden It was the largest moth I had ever seen, I didn’t know moths got to that size, a real eye opener for me.
Yes Snappy that’s right Cin J also confirmed thank you, I didn’t know that they grew to that size it was a real eye opener for me.
Oh - so put on your manifestation list Convolvulus HM or the squeaker - Death's-head HM which is the biggest of the Hawkmoth - Poplar are mid range in size
OK thank you Cin J
Excellent shots ILR. The first one could easilily be mistaken for a crumpled leaf and accidentaly stood on! Glad you didn't. Well spotted and photographed. Don't think I have ever seen one.
