It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Great selection of pics. Seems to be an explosion of peacocks here at the moment. Not seen a Jersey yet though.

You have probably never seen the VERY rare Lakeland 4B butterfly. They are localised only to my back garden ...
I occasionally get the all yellow form in my van - it occurs when I'm going to do a transect and I need to check the pencil is functioning

Only took my phone out on the transect today - too hot and muggy to lug extra kit
Fresh Brown Argus
Speckled Wood - I always feel these are an overlooked butterfly
When I got back to the van I got the camera out to and scanned the Hemp Agrimony
there were numerous bumbles and hovers enjoying it along with Red Admiral, Peacock, Gatekeepers and Speckled Wood
Fantastic captures Caroline!
Wonderful photos Cin! I love the Brown Argus it looks so sharp and fresh ...
Great set of pics.
Very nice. Yes the Speckled Wood Butterfly seems to have quite a few different markings.
