It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

stealthybutnotthatstealthy said:So few about. Not just butterflies. Hardly any moths here, incl scarlet tiger moths which we usually see loads of. Bees likewise. Garden usually has loads. Still quite a few but far fewer than normal, esp bumblebees. Re butterflies, seen one or more ringlets in the garden in recent days, and peacocks a couple of months ago.....hardly anything else. No orange tips at all which is very unusual.
Likewise with the exception of the scarlet tiger moths, which are a first timer in the garden here and currently very prevalent and active.
No cinnabar moths, very few speckled wood and holly blue, no peacock or tortoiseshell and even fewer bees, add to that damsels and dragons.
But, there has been a lot of construction work on top of HS2, (HS2 has probably reached its peak of land destruction locally).

Nice one Snappy. Haven't seen one of those for ages. Last time I saw some there were quite a lot on a thistle bush.
Thanks BD, some time since I have seen one as well...
