It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Lovely to see the orange tips about. I went fro a walk down a track in the woods today & saw a brimstone, Red Admiral & Speckled Woods. Although warm & sunny there wasn't much about. However I had a real treat on moths, starting with the smallest which was on it's foodplant Greater stitchwort (Stellaria holostea)
Coleophora lutarea
Then just afterwards I had a Longhorn moth, however it was a female, so it's antennes weren't very long
Adela reaumurella
& closeby was another tiddler
Glyphipterix fuscoviridella
There were lots of these
Speckled Yellow
Brown Silver-line
Small Yellow Underwing (it's very small)
Maidens blush
Common Heath
So all in all it was a lovely walk & the Nightingale was singing the whole time
A great selection Noisette.
Great sightings H, only one I've seen in UK traps is Common Heath!

Very nice and I think you have a very good eye for moths. I need to pay closer attention.
A few more butterflies so far. Saw a Holly blue but it was too far away to photograph and then hid in the ivy. female orange tip

Hi, yes I love the moths, I was looking for the one on the Greater Stitchwort & saw 2 of the others in the same area. If you're in the south it's worth checking these lovely little flowers on the edge of woods.
Your female orange tip isn't quite right, too meny spots on the forewing & hindwing not patterned. It may be small white. EDIT or maybe Green Veined White is better ?
Quite right it’s a green veined white. Have yet to see any female orange tips.
I think this is a Green-veined White taken at RSPB Sandy today:
Yes think so. I managed to get a female orange tip in the end today. Plus more of the males.
A wee big bit of sunshine....ta dah lol
