Kicking off this year's odds and sods with Starlings in a rainbow on that extreme rarity: sunshine.
It was early morning, with the sun barely cresting the tree line. We were able to get out for our morning walk as it wasn't raining. This photo is my trusty Canon 80D and Sigma 18-300mm lens zoomed in at 300mm.
Pulling back a bit.
And finally all the way back.
Oh, 2024 got off to a good start with this.
So far my cat, perhaps two neighbouring cats visiting our garden, a local fox and Tawny owl, and this trap have accounted for at least five of the beasties. Sightings of rats in our garden are getting rarer, so I think I'm winning. Two rather timid and wary rats, that I know of, are proving more elusive to catch. I've resorted to buying a lethal trap. The trap was triggered, yesterday, but no rat, sadly. Though a mouse might have triggered it, and was small enough to be within the kill bar.
90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.
Thanks BD. I think they call it cloud inversion. It does make for a a great view up Hope valley with just the peaks showing.

That's a good area for cloud inversions BD. I've captured some dramatic inversion photos in the past from the larger of the the reservoirs in that area.

Ta Mike. Yes, it is a give away :) You can book it out for 3 night for £1100. Would be great to stay there during the rut although not sure you would get much sleep.

From the deer or the Grouse Inn on the main road lower down!
Joking aside, I think I would prefer to be disturbed by the noise of rutting deer.
It's such a great area. From Shillito woods all the way across west to the three Derwent reservoirs, the history with the bouncing bombs. Castleton obviously and Win and Lose hill. A fantastic landscape to potter around in and some great wildlife.

Great shot of the dragon Cin. Sorry I don't like the mirror smooth sea, and clear blue sky ... I like heavy dark clouds and endless rain like we get ...
Love the green lizard and nice to know there is a blue sea and sunny landscape over in the Channel Islands; unusually, we had a sunny morning here yesterday so had to make the most of it and get out there early ! Thanks for the cheery post Caroline

It is, both further north to the Howden Moors and south towards Big & White Edge moors, plus it was nice to see photos again.
I'm sure you're more than aware, just to the south of the now defunct Barbrook there is a collection of megalithic sites. Unfortunately Fairholmes and Yorkshire Bridge are victims of their own success.
