Kicking off this year's odds and sods with Starlings in a rainbow on that extreme rarity: sunshine.
It was early morning, with the sun barely cresting the tree line. We were able to get out for our morning walk as it wasn't raining. This photo is my trusty Canon 80D and Sigma 18-300mm lens zoomed in at 300mm.
Pulling back a bit.
And finally all the way back.
Oh, 2024 got off to a good start with this.
So far my cat, perhaps two neighbouring cats visiting our garden, a local fox and Tawny owl, and this trap have accounted for at least five of the beasties. Sightings of rats in our garden are getting rarer, so I think I'm winning. Two rather timid and wary rats, that I know of, are proving more elusive to catch. I've resorted to buying a lethal trap. The trap was triggered, yesterday, but no rat, sadly. Though a mouse might have triggered it, and was small enough to be within the kill bar.
90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.

A very pleasant video to watch.
I loved the fox, and there's always one to upset the equilibrium, I'm talking of the cormorants, needing a longer log to rest on.... Superb captures, all birds and the fox, or foxes.

It's been snowing ... Yipeeee ...
And we saw a Woozle .... Well we didn't exactly see one ...
No snow, but -6.7C temps for our morning jaunt. Saw this Gold Crest, halfway round, flitting about in dense undergrowth, with sun barely above tree line.
My Canon 80D and lens at 300mm did our best, but it really was gloomy in the scrub, and the wee beastie kept flitting around.
I can see you.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I don't heft my R7 and long lens around with me during our daily 3mile morning walk. I feel I'd look a right berk.
I will either drag my Canon 80 with Sigma 18-300mm lens or Canon SX700 HS instead. The former on nice sunny mornings, the latter when it is cloudy.
I did use my R7 when I visited Moor Green Lakes and nascent Longwater road nature reserves. Not much out or within range - ponds were mostly frozen, with birds over 200m away where pond wasn't frozen.
Managed these.
