Spam-tastic

So after having a wee look at the latest spammers it was alarming to discover 12 folk joined a day ago as you can see

Out of these 12 folk 8 are spam!!!..just because some don't post a link it's all there on their "about" page !!

It's ridiculous that these all go undetected unless by the RSPB

It's like a free advertising place for anything and everything

From Essay writing to Escorts!!

It's a disgrace

Rant Over :-]

(Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • I still think the ability to detect if a profile is spam or not rather than just relying on spam people to post spam messages and forum members or moderators to discover the spam profiles would be a interesting idea for the community.
  • More Spam has just appeared a few minutes ago! All i so well on this forum! I suppose!

    Regards,

    Ian.

  • For me I don’t have any birding friends im only surrounded by non birders and I’m unable to go to birding clubs and things like that so before I joined I didn’t know what it was like to talk to birders. Seeing and interacting with borders was new and Its a place I can relate to people like myself and discuss things with people who Have similar interests so for me this site gives me something I wouldn’t have for me I didn’t know one existed I just simply stumbled across it and sent a post about a Redpoll and after I made the acount I eventually I decided to stay even though I found out there’s little to no RSPB presence.

I dont have the money to pay for a RSPB membership so I’m not an Payed RSPB member and never have had one nor have I ever been to an RSPB Reserve only Wildlife Trust Woodland Trust and national Trust so if this forum was members only I would not be benefiting from the community forum and it’s more than just a place to share photos and news and what not. And I wouldn’t be surprised if there was other autistic people like me who benefits from the forum for similar if not the same reasons. Not all autistic people say there autistic so it’s possible to interact with autistic people without being aware of it until they say so many people benefit from the fact the community is not only for people who have a membership

I wasn’t aware of the issues that come with the forum when I first started not until something happened to Robbo who’s acount and content got deleated for some reason. I didn’t know the site gets spam either

there are both good and bad things about this community one of the downsides being that most members say this forum doesn’t work aswell as it should. In reality this site should have more protection from spam anyway Exspeacially since it’s a public forum but if spam acounts were removed that would definitely benefit the forum and there needs to be something in this community that can make dealing with spam eastyer. If less moderators and moderators inactivity is a problem then there needs to be something that can recognise spam profiles to stop them before any potential posting

This forum was at one time so easy to use. Practically no spam. Don’t worry  what I suggest won’t happen.  What I say are my own views! Not the majority. You Need not worry. If it was me it would be a members only forum. I also often wonder how secure this forum actually is. Quite a few years ago this forum was hacked with 1000’s,s of Far Eastern posts, not posted by  real people from the far east in what looked Chinese words and this forum had to be closed for a long period to sort out that huge problem. Also this happened a second time when there where no active moderators and the same thing happened again a second time and at the weekend when no one was available to contact. And again thousands upon thousand of posts per second of Far Eastern posts Chinese at a weekend with no one available to contact of which there was at one time some moderators  always available at weekend plus bank holidays to deal with situation like this. But not now.

  • Zo, Chris Packham is on the spectrum so you're in the best possible company.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • It is so difficult to have constructive debate on a Forum where the basic concept of Quote and Reply does not function and has not functioned since the last "upgrade".

PS I have flagged the latest SPAM and user so it/they may disappear soon.

It’s the Osprey section that keeps this forum going. The rest of this forum is hardly used to what it was. If the Osprey section was taken away this forum would suddenly begin to die. I wonder how many original members now take part on this forum. You can joke but that’s true. It’s only the Osprey section that keeps these forums alive. Take the Osprey section away and this form would slowly die!

Any idea on how many of the Osprey Community are RSPB Members?

Also sometimes when I want to edit a list. I can’t and I have to to go to the home page and then back to the forum to edit a post of when I’ve made a mistake.
