Spam-tastic

So after having a wee look at the latest spammers it was alarming to discover 12 folk joined a day ago as you can see

Out of these 12 folk 8 are spam!!!..just because some don't post a link it's all there on their "about" page !!

It's ridiculous that these all go undetected unless by the RSPB

It's like a free advertising place for anything and everything

From Essay writing to Escorts!!

It's a disgrace

Rant Over :-]

(Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • They've gone! Yay!!!!!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Did you say Escorts ... Blush. With my luck it will be a Ford garage selling clapped out cars ... Confounded

  • To say I’m surprised! Well I’m not! This will continue to happen in the future year in year out. Security is very weak and has been for years. What I thought should be done wasn’t agreed by anyone else. I won’t repeat what I’ve said many times before. All most important news from the RSPB also seem to be on the various RSPB Facebook and Twitter accounts of which have Moderators who reply And sadly I expect with confidence that this will continue many time in the future years. Security is very very weak. And does anyone think the survey that some filled in will make any changes to this forum and I’ve been that some member did the survey were invited to a webinar. Well we’ll wait and see what happen. The RSPB’s main outlet now is thoughFacebook and Twitter! And that is fact. Most of the RSPB reserve news is now on the various reserves Facebook and Twitter accounts and that will continue But I wait with bated breath to see the changes the survey will bring to this forum!j sorry to a brutal but honest reply about this subject, but what I’ve said is my honest opinion.

    Regards,

    Ian.

  • If it is easy for Spammy to register an account then they will. If they can't do it automatically, then if they can pay a very poor person peanuts in a far-flung area of the globe to do the job for them, then they will. They don't care about the people who won't click on the links. They just need/want as much coverage as possible to reach a very small percentage of people who will fall for their 'unmissable offers'. And a lot of the links also come with added 'bonuses', like getting an insecure PC to join a private network of controlled end devices. Since it is a very small number/percentage, the requirement to get their 'message' out to as broad a readership as possible is imperative to their business model.

Following up on Robbo's comment. Once upon a time I did call one particularly irritating Spammy (on another continent) at a time that wasn't convenient for him. I woke him up.

I've been off the 'net (and without a telephone) for a full seven days, as an overhead cable got trashed and it took BT 7+ days to effect a repair.
  • Really just as bad! Other forums that I know have moderators who actually reply on forum like the RSPB Community and used to have active moderators who replies even at weekends, Also it is so easy for any spammer or spammers just click enough times and anyone could get automatically suspended or banned until maybe a moderator sees what’s happened or that member contacts the RSPB themselves. I’ve never seen such a forum as this so complete.y different to any other forum that I know off. I could mention how this forum in lots of ways.. It is much worse now and so easy to cause mischief from spammers on this forum than any others that I know off. So saying all forums as bad as this I would say that  differs in lots of other ways as well.not sx. I RSPB moderators regularly reply on the many various RSPB Facebook and Twitter websites. Maybe that tells you where the RSPB’s  main interests are now. Also most of the big RSPb news items tend to appear first on the main RSPB Facebook and Twitter websites long before the main RSPB website, gets the news.

    Ian.

  • Well more spam this morning! There is no other forum that I know of that gets this happening every week and even mote frequently at times. Other forums have moderators at least during daytime, which sadly does not happen at all now on this forum. And that is the reason so much spam happens on this forum. No active moderators, gets you more and more spam all the time. Unless the suggestion I gave was accepted by the RSPB this will continue indefinitely.!

    Regards,

    Ian.

Was there? I must have missed it !

  • Well here it is again! Only RSPB members woukd be allowef to be members of this forum. All RSPB members would have to  re-register giving there membership number and only staff  as welk as moderators would have access to all RSPB members, membership numbers as well as all RSPB members home address with  postcode. Now yet again there will be non-members who will complain. Don't forget its RSPB members who pay there membership subscriptions and some like myself on occasions to RSPB appeals!

    Regards,

    Ian.

  • Well what would you suggest! It’s just going to get worse not better. It probably should  be better closing this RSPB Community as at least they do have active RSPB Moderators that do reply on the various RSPB Facebook  and Twitter accounts
