Butterflies and Moths 2023

No need, sounds as if it failed early on to convert into butterfly & just dried out ... I have opened failures in the past where the caterpillar body was still visible!

Oops too late...There is a weird smell from it..och well poor wee fella ... :-(

My interest in the process of raising butterflies was piqued when I purchased a kit for my great-nephew about 10 years ago when he was four ... I was more interested that he! Lol

Then went on to rear various silk moths & even Death's head hawkmoths, they were a bit scary!!

Neighbours used to bring me any pupae they accidentally dug up, had Elephant hawkmoths amongst others, not all were successful so had to perform post mortems!

Oh a dont know if it's for me Wendy after my 1st failure lol..might just stick to admiring everyone else's for now ;-)

Saw this one land on my summerhouse ...think I disturbed it trying to cut away dead branches in my conifers

Interesting to see the posts/pictures of the Jersey Tiger Moths. Looks very much like what I saw in my part of North London yesterday. Do the wings appear bright orange when in flight?
