Starting off 2023 list already! 7 Winter moths - Operophtera brumata around the front door
Last years thread for newcomers can be found here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/279008/butterflies-and-moths-2022
Not sure what I will find this year as I will be possibly be doing more travelling in the UK

Grass veneer moths are commonly found in grass on grass stems and are attracted to light there very common over here in Gloucestershire so I see them in the garden and other places sometimes this is my first grass veneer of the year for this year so far
Home and slowly working through my photos - fabulous trip.
Just a few highlights from my two visits to Butterfly Conservation sites
Prees Heath to look for Silver-studded Blues. Met a couple of chaps in the carpark who sent me off into the meadow saying there were about 30 or so - I thought they meant over the whole area - no they meant within 6 foot of the gateway - it was fabulous to see so many of these stunning beauties
Alners Gorse in Dorset was the second site. Only managed about an hour as it was way too hot for my companion
Saw Black Hairstreak but way too high to get a photo and there were at least 3 White Admiral that were far too busy patrolling to stop for a portrait.
It's not often you get a Meadow Brown basking
Large Skipper were being very obliging
First for me - UK Ringlet (sadly we don't have them)
what a lovely rich chocolate brown
waiting patiently while I photograph the Ringlet
Lovely fresh Comma
I had spotted a number to Marbled White but like the Admirals they weren't stopping and then in the lovely sunny open this one settled
On my list to go back and explore more
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
6 Spot Burnet
This is the last photo I took of the 6 spot Burnets
The Moths are mateing
Love the butterflies Cin, particularly the Marbled White which I have never seen, and the amazing Silver Studded Blues ...
And Eric of course ...
Can't believe you didn't give me a bell, Cin... Only 15 mins from Alners Gorse About time I went back, did anyone mention the frits, or have I missed them? Super selection and always a treat to see the bear!!
