Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
A Marsh Harrier food drop which I believe is a Coot chick.
Taken at RSPB Ham Wall
A large crop on this photo so not the best quality
Thought I recognised that name ... been a long time! Lovely pics, brightened the day!
Not the sharpest photo but still nice to watch, a kestrel hunting on the Peaks edges yesterday.
Buzzard over the garden today
And Jock in the garden...he's probably wondering where the feeders are too lol
This is a first for me. Perhaps if you live in an area rife with Red Kites this sight may be common, but not round where I live. I can only assume this is a family group. They all sat in these dead snags (a popular spot for other birds to sit) for well over 20 minutes. I eventually got bored and wandered off.
They are roughly 150m away (according to google measure distance in google maps). This is what they look like in an uncropped image with my lens at 600mm.
Cropping out the remainder.
I never appreciated how big their tails feathers are.
The top most bird was having difficulty balancing, and eventually decided on a little jaunt to the next branch along.
But this branch was even trickier to balance on than the one it left.
Eventually it gave up the struggle, and took off again.
The dozy creature aimed for a slender branch.
Which broke predictably.
It did a wide circling flight, before landing on the branch it left originally.
It fiddled with the twig, before dropping it, whereupon it continued preening and sunning itself.
Anyway, I discovered that Google maps has a tool to measure distances. Apparently, it is reasonably accurate. It gives me a very useful guide as to how far a subject is.
90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.
