RSPB Conwy A Very Hot Friday 17th June

Twas a very hot, but windy day, and the hope was to see some six spot burnet moths, which are often very prevalent around the reserve at Conwy. However, on arrival and feeling the very gusty winds, I felt the moths will be keeping a very low profile today.

Warning, there are quite a few photos, so you might want to get a cuppa and biccie or 2, 3, 4 or more....

As always, there's something to see, and I was introduced to some bee orchids.

Though it was  windy, the bees were out collecting the pollen

A quick look at the new feeding station, and.....

Robins were plenty abound....

Though this one seemed to want to be in hiding!

as its partner had just arrived on scene....

More bee activity

Who's that trip trapping across my bridge?

A common blue damselfly

The Carneddau Ponies were around the Carneddau Hide

I did say it was a bit windy....

As the song title goes, "Don't Mess With Ma Toot Toot", by Denise LaSelle,

The little egret couldn't find a comfy position to stand with the wind, head on and the wind was in its face, turn around and it blew its plume everywhere!

An emperor dragonfly resting on some reeds

A speckled wood....

A carrot bil, well, a pair on the Shallow Lagoon of viewed from the cafe

A mallard family outing on the Shallow Lagoon, also viewed from the cafe

Another, or possibly the same from earlier, emperor dragonfly

A bashful dunnock!

A greenfinch singing away to its partner on a nearby branch....

One of the many tetradactyl around that day...

Now, I'm reliably informed, this is a northern orchid.....

A greylag goose

Shelduck, one of the few without its head shoved under its wing....

More Carneddau Pony activity....

"Now there's someone in the hide, do you think if I play dead, someone will fetch a cold beer?"

as i'm sure you will all realise, the pony was perfectly well, though it was hot and probably felt the heat, and even more so on the ground, because it didn't stay down for long before moving off.

I hope i've not bored you all, with so many photos.

Thank you for viewing.

  • Lovely set Mike and like us, the ponies aren't used to the hot weather yet. lol. Like the Greylag standing to attention ready for his photo. ! well done capturing the dragonfly in flight, this weather should bring out the insects, thanks for sharing your day out with us.

  • Super stuff Mike. You can tell it's hot if the tetradactyl is drying his armpits Joy

I agree with Hazel, the dragon in flight is a fab shot. Mrs Mally has done well with all those nippers.

    Thanks for sharing :o)

Thank you Hazel, and you're welcome.

As you know, capturing a dragonfly is pure luck, and I got lucky, with a little skill. It seemed to be following a specific circuit, so I pre-empted the focus and as it started to dart at speed, fired away.

You can guess there were a load of wasted photos, but it was worth it.

    Thanks PB.

Yes, Mrs Mally was doing brilliantly with those nippers. Hot and sweaty I guess for the pterodactyl, and I'm very chuffed with the dragonfly pic, that took some effort, as you can see in my reply to Hazel. But I got the reward to share with everyone.
