Hello lovely northern folk

So, me n Mrs PB have started out Yorkshire jolly, and she and her mum would like a couple of hours in Ripon tomorrow... Any thoughts where I can escape to from there for a couple of hours (including travel)

Thanks in advance for your fabulous thoughts Grin

  • Hi PB pity we are tied up with medical appointments tomorrow as Ripon is home town for me and we could have met up, . Alans suggestion of Ripon City Wetlands is a good one, also worth trying is a walk down the Ripon canal as there is some lagoons down there with a couple of viewing screens. If you try the wetlands the riverside lagoon us best at the moment with Glossy
Ibis showing at timesand at least one pair of Avocet best seen from the river path. Cettis Warbler is usually around and can be heard if not seen and last week we heard our first Grasshopper Warbler of the year. Note the car park is locked at 5pm
My favorite spot in the area is Nosterfield Nature reserve but that is about 6 miles North of Ripon so may use up some of your free time. If you just want a pleasant walk any of the 3 rivers are worth a look at and easily accessible. Get in touch if you want further information but as I said I'm pretty tied up and appointments are quite precious nowadays

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Not forgetting Appletons butchers in the market place .... some of the best pork pies I have ever tasted ... Yum

  • That's lovely gents, thank you. Appleton's has been programmed into Mrs PBs Google maps Rofl
  • The options from Pete and Alan sound good although I have not been myself but I shall put them on my list to visit. Enjoy Yorkshire and hope you have time to visit Bempton cliffs and St Aidans
  • Mmm pork and apple or pork and black pudding and thequiches are as good as home made
We do cover a very wide range of stuff on here don't we Grinning

  • Mmmmm I'm drooling already Joy
I don't think I'll have time for both, ILR, and at the moment Bempton is winning! Redcar has been mentioned too, so RsPB stratholme may make it on the list Grin
  • If visiting Redcar try South Gare, fantastic spot south side of the mouth of the Tees and usually a good number of very friendly Teesmouth birders

  • Just seen half a dozen Swift's through the front window Grin I'm working on escaping during the Redcar trip, but not sure I'll get away, but thanks Pete.
With the albatross still being about Bempton has won the main birdie trip competition, probably tomorrow, forecast permitting.
Thanks all for your input Grin
