Farne Islands Trip Wednesday 8 June.

An hour on Inner Farne.

    1. Superb set Bob, reminds me of when me and Mrs PB were there a few years back. And what's more amazing, is posting the pictures a week before your visit JoyJoyJoy

Well spotted for the "bridled" Guillemot:o)

When we were there the one of the wardens said about a potential lack of sand eels for the puffins, but yours seem to be coming back with proper beakfuls, good to see :o)

    Thanks for sharing

I bought an old Police Box at a reclamation/antique centre and found it could do extraordinary things Slight smile

  • A good selection of photos Bob.

I do think puffins are funny when the take flight, with that run/paddle type start.....

Was the stained glass window of  St Cuthbert?

  • Excellent photos Bob. I particularly liked number 12, I have taken quite a few of those on the Farne Island boat trips. The Puffins are wonderful - they don't look real somehow, and the Guillemots look like they are made of chocolate. I have been most years, Covid, permitting for the last 8 years or so, staying at the Bamburgh Castle Inn, on the harbour at Seahouses, right where the boats leave from. I am giving it a miss this year and going to the Lakes, as the price for a week's bed and breakfast has risen to over £1200 for just me and Billy! But I will miss the Billy Shiels boat trips, I have always gone at least twice each time.
  • Like Billysdad we like to visit the area twice a year usually basing ourselves around Beadnell in recent years. We are still in the middle of organising our 2nd of this year's visits hoping to see the Terns near the Long Nanny colony and maybe the Coquet Island cruise from Amble

    Pete

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Springwatch was showing the Shag with it's green eyes, and your photos gave another brilliant close up of what is a beautiful bird. As are all the others of course, and I am also glad to see the mouthful of sandeel the puffins are carrying. It seems everyone is getting to Farne except me, boo hoo,:-) so thanks for those photos giving me chance to see so many close up features on the waders.

    Lot to learn

Good question - I don't know but I suspect it was. It was in the St Cuthbert Chapel on the Island but I didn't spend time reading the paperwork - only an hour on the islands these days so no time to waste.

  • There's a very good chance it was St Cuthbert, he was active on the Farne Islands, hence the Chapel of St Cuthbert, likewise on Lindisfarne, and similar images of St Cuthbert are visible there as well.

  • A cracking set of photos Bob from your trip away. All superb but the Puffins are so funny, love the pose they have when flying, legs and wings spread out, peeping out their burrow, that is cute. Have yet to see them. Dunnet Head is only 25 miles away, which RSPB bought several years ago, many cliff and sea birds and the Puffins, went twice but they had gone, have to make the effort to go this year. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • If you don't mind me asking could you tell me what camera and lens you use?

    Regards
