A lovely sunny day at Minsmere with Hobbies and a Cuckoo.

This is my first post for some weeks, the last few weeks have been spent preparing for, then going to Northern Scotland, then trying to catch up with life after more than two weeks away. There have been thousands of pictures to sort through and I'm not finished yet but hope to be sharing the highlights some time soon.

Anyway apologies for not being about and responding to your posts as normal, I'll back to normal soon.

Last Monday was our first trip out since our holiday and we chose Minsmere.

The first sightings were of Hobbies over the trees rather than out over the reed beds, and they were hovering in the breeze giving good photo opportunities and catching St. Mark's Flies.

Hobby with St mark's Fly about to be eaten.

Common Tern from the Bittern Hide

For much of the time in the Bittern Hide we could hear a Cuckoo, then it flew in front of the hide and landed in a nearby tree briefly, a rare sighting for us.

Walking along the reed bed path, a Reed Bunting.

Down by the sea in the dunes a handsome Wheatear.

From East Hide a pair of Moorhens with one thing on the males mind.

Attracting attention.

Finally on the way to the visitor centre, a Green Woodpecker.

These are just the highlights of a lovely day out.

Best wishes,

Trevor
