After spending a lot of time with family this last week we took ourselves off yesterday afternoon to check out a couple of Red Kite sites fairly local to home. Chris managed to find a sheltered spot to set her scope up without disturbing either nests but it was still very wild. We had reasonable views and could see that one nest had what we think is the female bird was sat in the nest either on early eggs or sheltering from the wind and hail. The other nest seemed to be refurbished but both birds were keeping out of the wind in nearby trees. The weather turned nasty again so we left them in peace and visited our local reserve to see what the wind had blown in. Scanning the main lake we saw 15 Black Tailed Godwits feeding in front of the screen as well as 2 Ruff. These birds were very close to breeding plumage with a good mixture of reds catching the sun. Scanning around we found a Ringed Plover in the shallows and Redshank and Oystercatcher feeding on the edges. 2 ot 3 Curlew guarding nest spots and several Lapwing sitting on nests. A great afternoon catching many waders moving North to their breeding grounds

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
There pretty good in our garden there not interested in the borders or anything else except the food I put out or the bird bath they literally ignore everything else. If they don’t have any bird food left they just settle with clovers which I have a lot of in the garden. They just eat the bird food or the clovers have a bath or a drink preen thrmselfs or bond with a mate if they have one and then leave when there done. Squirrels arnt much of problem where I am anyway so I don’t have to worry about it there very entertaining. I love seeing squirrels. I don’t usually see them unless I go to the garden in Hucclecote. They only visit that garden very occasionally so don’t tend to cause problems. or if I go to the Orchard, stream or the woods. and with the Woodpigeons there defantly very interesting to watch, exspeacialy when they have mated. When the Woodpigeon nested out the front that was the first time we ever had them nest in the tree and since it was right out my window it was very interesting to observe. I took part in nest watch since it was nesting out my window.
