Big Garden Birdwatch 2022: The results

Except the numbers of individuals taken part this is well down compared to those taken part in the 2021 Big Garden Birdwatch where over 1 million individuals took part and 2021 was an all time record and compared to the 2021 Big Garden Birdwatch when over 1 million UK individuals took part . That is the downside in the 2022 Big Garden Birdwatch to thid years Big Garden Birdwatch. Sorry to put a downside to the 2022 Big Garden Birdwatch. But I think that should be said. I was hoping that at least as many as in the 2021 Big Garden Birdwatch would happen in 2022 and possibly even more. But sadly that hasn’t happened and the number taken part in 2022 are sharply down compared to 2021!

Don’t worry about it. Things should calm down hopefully. I think it’s a very interesting post.  a lot of people are interested in the count.  to be honest who would of thought the long term trend for the Robin would be down since it’s such a popular bird. I think it’s quiet supriseing.

I'm not going to dwell on the numbers participating, nor the overall bird numbers.

For us, this year was a first of no BGBW, because we were busy helping our son after invasive surgery which should have been keyhole, that he had only a couple of weeks earlier, and his garden, one of those new fangled gardens, has no visiting birds, no trees or shrubs nearby, nor can they plant any, that's in the deeds for the property and others on his estate.

Digressing, the reason for no trees is the prospect of the roots damaging the foundations of his or neighbouring properties. That is the state of today.

So no BGBW for us, but also, more people are back at work, more working in the office than at home, and former colleagues who would have been on furlough for 2020 and flat week working for 2021 are now enjoying overtime working again, though still very restricted, which could also be one of many reasons for the drop in participants.

On the plus side, many thanks to Linda for providing the details and our son has made a thorough recovery, and back running, cycling and kayaking again.

On a cheeky note, I did wonder about logging the three hens our son has in his garden, and the eggs are tasty.....
