That’s ok. I use bird books aswell I got more than 10 identification books on Birds and Wildlife. I decided to count them to see how much I actually have and all together I got about 20. There very good ones but I got a few favourite ones cause some are better and more helpful than others. I just thought it would be helpful to send some infomation from Wildfowl and also Scottish Wildlife Trust. And photos of the male and female. but il just send pictures or just add a link next time.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Lucky old camera Linda,we did not manage either trips the other week when we were up there due to gale force winds but we will be back later in thr year for some Tern watching. Tske care with that mead it's rocket fuel you may end up talking to your little Puffin.I'm sure Bob is right about the Eider in eclipse plumage being a male, Chris took a couple of similar shots on her phone in Seahouses harbour last month

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I always used to say that you can't have to many id guides but how many do we use regularly? I think we use the Colins most followed by the Wild Guide for more detail but I still look for new ones in the shops but very selective nowadays. As phone is an old one I have not gone down the digital route except on the tablet.
Cooll. I have a wild guide book called British Birds pocket guide. With this one It goes i into a lot of detail about Plummages and has lots of illustrations to help with identifying differant types of birds. It is one of my favourites I do have Collin ones aswell though
