Brancaster Harbour 24 March 2022

Just  two pictures from the harbour at Brancaster today.  Not sure what they are called.  Just wish I took my bigger camera lens.

Hope you like them. :-)

  • I think your 1st one is a Turnstone slowly transforming from its winter plumage..
Not sure on your Gull am afraid but am sure more knowledgeable people shall be along soon ;-)

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Those photos are very good considering you didn't have your big lens with you. Enlarging them and the clarity is very good and clear.

I'm no expert, but a guess would be

    1. Turnstone
    2. Black Headed Gull coming out of winter plumage

If I'm wrong, I know someone will correct me. Wink

  • Linda and Mike,
Thank you very much for identifying those birds. Hopefully will be going back there soon as it is only 1hr and 20 mins away from where I live. :-)

There are a few RSPB places nearby so I hope to visit then soon. :-)

    You're welcome.

Had a quick look on the map at Brancaster, not an area I know, though last summer I made the three plus hour drive to Titchwell Marsh from near Birmingham. I picked the wrong day, it was too hot and sunny, which might seem strange to say, but nature is more sensible than we humans, and stayed low to keep cool.

But I did get to see my first turnstone.....

I'm hoping to make a return later this year, if fuel costs don't spiral too much, not something I'm overly hopeful on at the moment.
