Nest Building Has Begun..Share Your Pics Here

I thought it maybe a good idea to start a thread  for us all to share picture of birds collecting their materials to build their nests. I have spent the morning watching a female black bird take lots of material from my garden and over the fence, even saw her dip her material in my fountain...must has been because the ponds were occupied at the time with other birds!

I will kick it of with my lovely BB then....

And her raiding the larger pond...saves me getting the net out lol

Please feel free to add your pics and stories here of our lovely wildlife hard at work

  • I've a few to share....

Copied from my house sparrow post.

"The house sparrows are getting busy again in next doors eaves!"

    Mr HS doing his bit

I just wish they would sweep up after themselves, dropping the twigs and grass on our patio!

I'll see if I can get a piccie or two of them going into the eaves. I think a video is a little to far from a location perspective.

  • More from the house sparrows.....

Pssst; Guys, there's plenty of grass, and moss, so help yourselves, it needs trimming....

Update, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any photos of the house sparrows going into the eaves, the young family the other side have randomly chopped down the shrubs. So I have no privacy, neither do they, and with pre-school aged children, someone is in the house all day.

No nests have been disturbed, not that any bird would nest in the shrubs, they're too low and too much close by activity for that. But they did use the shrubs to access the feeders, and collect nesting material. So they now use my garage roof to check the coast is clear and dart down to the feeder.

  • Thanks for your additions Mike...hope the Sparrows survive another nesting season .....not so good you don't have the privacy you once did...

I was just amazed at the sudden removal. I doubt much thought had gone in to it, but I'm talking to my gardener and may put some trellis up. I guess I'll give the wrong impression as most things can be taken at least two ways, often the most negative having the greater attention....

There is a little history, they're not avid gardeners, and I did ask if they could try and trim back the brambles at the bottom of the garden as they were pushing my fence panels out of the posts.

I think that is what probably triggered the (needless) shrub removal.

The brambles are still there, pushing against the fence panels!

There's more than one way to skin a rabbit.... Wink

  • There was 2 of them sitting in the nest and I managed to get both of them in one of the photos but this would be the best one

  • One from me. High up in the tree tops ...

  • Looks like she is saying a prayer that the leaves start growing soon!!!!!

    Lot to learn

  • That’s a very good photo it can be quiet hard to get a birds head only just sticking up out of a nest. But that might be cause I don’t have a tripod though. Its a really good picture
