My own little murmuration

Luckily I took my camera up to my daughter's home this afternoon as I was lucky to catch these just over the field

Back to earth with these Rooks shining in  the sunshine

and a lovely dinner enjoyed by all, especially me not having to cook it :-)

  • Wow how wonderful Gaynor...hardly little though ;-)

  • Thanks Wendy, my daughter does a nice roast. I am very lucky. Linda I haven't seen as many Starlings when I think of it for a while, I was getting about 20/30 in the garden eating the sunflower hearts, but for the last few days there are only four or so, now I know where they are, I had taken my camera up with me in case the Hare appeared, but quite happy with the flypast:-)

    Lot to learn

  • Great to see a Murmuration of any size, I've only seen one this winter and that was very small, not seen a large one for a few years now.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Trevor
  • Very nice to get your own personal performance Gaynor and to get Sunday lunch is an added bonus. We've got a bit blasé about murmurations recently as our two local wetlands have decent sized ones and one also has about 5,000 Jackdaws performing, what a racket they make !! The local village pub has mentioned the murmurations as an attraction at their "happy hour" opening times.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Fabulous photos Gaynor.

Its been too long since I last saw a murmeration, and those rooks, splendid as ever, all topped off with a nice dinner.

  • Nice photos that was lucky you managed to be able to get photos of the Murmeration even though it was a small one. Starling murmeratiom numbers populations have reduced in certain areas so there’s less of them than there used to be. So I wouldn’t exspect to see as much as we did back then anyway. Even in smaller numbers than they used to be the mirmeratioms are one of nature’s wonders and amazing to watch. They tend to whirl around and do all sorts of patterns while on there way to there roosting site. The starling murmeratiom is pretty much ending now since we arnt in Autumn and winter anymore and that’s the time they form murmerations. You were lucky to get some pictures. I havnt been able to get any starling murmeratiomsnyet but thinking of going to Brighton pier  where there we’ll known for there starling mirmeratioms and try to get a picture of them.

  • Thanks all, it was a surprise but gratefully received, both the birds and the dinner :-)
