These appear to be Hawthorn Flies. otherwise known as St.Mark's flies. The female has a smaller head than the male. There seems to be quite a lot around at the moment, and looking at these two there will soon be some more !!
I am thinking that this is a bee. Can anyone BEE more specific ....

Speckled Bush Cricket I think. Jumped out of a flower bed during a weeding session. Ran inside and grabbed a camera before it decided to jump off elsewhere. Trust me to have the wrong lens on. Wish I had the lens with macro capability fitted to the camera. Taken with a 100-400 zoom lens.
