It's probably an ideal time to start the 2022 Odds & Sods thread off, with some squabbling starlings....

This pair of starlings were having a right old go at each other, whilst another nipped in to the coconut shell for a food

Madam and Sir Goosander photo looks perfectly fine to me, as do the others, and those colourful manderins, beautiful.
This weekend was our Island Bird Watch - Yesterday. was beautiful but I was busy in the morning so did my count today and also played with my new camera. Squirrels count as birds for the weekend. Even though the weather was unpleasant today plenty showed but there were a couple of latecomers
Nice to see the Daffs Germain, I have a feeling it could be a little while before we see many in N.Yorkshire, we like to think of them showing in time for Mothering Sunday.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Kind regards, Ann
There ae black squirrels in the UK, the first being recorded back in 1912.
Unknown said:Love your Squirrel, CinJ! Is that a Red Squirrel who just happens to have some black fur... or?
Very dark brown Red - from my understanding our males are darker so I think at the moment I have 3 males visiting, it may also be age related, I need to check with our local expert. There used to be some melanistic ones in the middle of the Island.
Edit:- Just checked - winter coat so darker colouring and genetics - so may all be related. Apparently our Island ones are slightly heavier than UK reds
