Well it's time to start a new thread for this year. I saw my 1st Red Admiral of the year yesterday & have had a couple of moths in the house & in the trap overnight.
The house moths come out of the firewood (I think), Ive had 3 around the computer this month, I just keep putting them back out Mompha subbistrigella
Photo taken of it in the plastic pot before I threw it out.
Then in the trap a couple of moths, Eudonia angustea, always around in the winter,
& this one which is several weeks early, not sure why, Orthosia incerta "Clouded Drab Moth"
Last years thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/206393/butterflies-moths-2020 for those that want to have a bit of bedtime reading.
Best wishes

Butterflies have been very scare of late, almost certainly down to the weather, dull, wet and no sun, so it was nice to grab a last minute day out locally and see a couple of tortoiseshell butterflies from a couple of days ago.
This one seemed to be making the best of the afternoon sun....

Found this six-spot burnet amongst my plants whilst on a slug hunt!

Butterflies and moths are still scarce, but that's hardly surprising considering the weather.
I did see a speckled wood at the weekend, but it wouldn't stay around for a piccie, however, a cinnabar moth did stop by and allow me to take, just one piccie....
2 posers this morning in the wild circle...probably waiting for the sun!
Ringlet me thinks.
No chance of a clear shot! Lol
Nice photos Linda, and I like the meadow island in the garden.
Cheers Mike..could do with another one as still got tons of lawn lol
You're welcome, and that is a decent sized garden.
Hi all, I think I've snapped some sort of fritillary, but can't work out which one, and only have a half image of the underwing. It was big, and a very bright orange, it was also aggressive, chasing off a large dragonfly from its patch. This was up Hod Hill in Dorset (look out for a longer post regarding the trip in general...you've been warned lol) Thanks for any help forthcoming:
