Kicking off this new thread with pics from my pond tonight ... very mild & light rain, actually went out to put fresh food & water out for Hoggies as I'd read that it was mild enough for them to come out of hibernation ... imagine my surprise to discover these critters
One changed position
Looks to me as if the coupling is male on female ... what do you think!
Didn't have any females last year!
Saw some pics of spawn on FB last night at Lennon Legacy Project on the edge of Dartmoor!

... and without even training them! Very impressive!!!
I went out looking in the local gravel pits yesterday afternoon after the rain stopped for a moment. There is more water than ever, but I didn't see any trace of frogs or spawn yet. A bonus was actually spotting a newt at the bottom of one of the ponds.

Oooh, no newts here yet!
Can't decide if the original spawn in sieve has naturally volumised or more has been laid on top?? Can see the black dots inside taking shape ...

tonight
Turned around to come indoors & nearly stomped on this one's head!!!
Chased him back to the pond!!
It does look like the individual eggs have swollen doesn't it, but even so, there must be more in there ... mustn't there??? I mean, don't tell me you hadn't counted them
Checked the spawn after a pretty cold night, seems OK
Close up of development on day 9
Couple more cold nights & gales again Saturday ... fingers still firmly crossed!
