Kicking off this new thread with pics from my pond tonight ... very mild & light rain, actually went out to put fresh food & water out for Hoggies as I'd read that it was mild enough for them to come out of hibernation ... imagine my surprise to discover these critters
One changed position
Looks to me as if the coupling is male on female ... what do you think!
Didn't have any females last year!
Saw some pics of spawn on FB last night at Lennon Legacy Project on the edge of Dartmoor!

Drawback here is that ours have no grass, just earth & undergrowth ... next job is to order grass seed & make them a private lawn at back of pond ... wise after the event! Used to be able to buy individual turf rolls at B&Q but not this year!
And still with tail....
Nice photos, including the mozzie larvae

Now the rains have come back, the newts are back, too. The back one is a male Palmate (first newt I've managed to ID in the wild). The front one is a female (signs she was egg-laying) but species is unconfirmed as the area gets all three types. This tiny pond was dry a couple of weeks ago.

Superb photo Nige.
One of my froglets still in the pond ... last man standing ... for perspective the plant is a water iris in 9cm aquatic pot
He's so small that he's still under the water, even when he's out of the water.!! :-)
My bird photos HERE
A few days ago I discovered four frogs in my pond
Alien looking fourth one
Just one lonely Pond skater, devil of a job to get a pic, kept darting away as I pressed shutter, got loadsa blanks! Lol
