Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january
Best wishes

Hopeful to see more during our mini heatwave here!
Finally, I managed to get a photos of a Red Admiral, but only the underside!
Unfortunately it was too close and my attempt to get up and get a proper photo was thwarted, it flew off!

My first moth of the year - an Angle Shades - found, very surprisingly, in my shed on a net curtain by the open window this evening!
Lucky you Sandra, one of my favourites, found my first one on a Rose leaf & no idea what it was until H told me!
oh wow. These are great resources. I have always been fascinated with moths especially because of how they either get typecast as scary or ugly. The patterns in their wings are quite beautiful too. If i may add a resource for y'all to explore, do check out Macmillan's Butterflies and Moths- its very beginner level though but the illustrations are great.
