Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january

Hazel C said:our weather has gone belly-up, only soggy streaks here & that's down the panes of glass.
A couple of hours after I took that I was in the middle of a drenching, some of which was hail. The temperature still hasn't recovered, so it probably regrets coming out, now!!

I suppose we'll find a little more soon. I wanted to go up to get the Dragons (I imagine we've missed the Adders) and to Gait Barrows for the Fritillaries. However, I don't imagine opening the countryside even for day trips will be priority 1. In the meantime, I'm lucky enough to have a small local supply of purest Green to keep me going
Just trapped a lovely male Emperor Moth in a small plastic sieve with dustpan as a lid as it kept returning to a cobweb ridden gap behind gas bottles, rescued it three times ... now in proper big moth box, will keep for one night, put moth trap out tonight to see if a female calls in, if not then will let male go when it's lovely & sunny!
