Quite a fascinating discovery today when getting rid of potted but unproductive Cherry tree in this marvellous view of the chambers of a black ant's nest & loads of eggs ... left it on garden intact to see if any bird interest ... Robin made several visits!!

I managed to catch quite a few insects at Lunt over the weekend. I paused by a Wild Rose with nearby Cow Parsely, etc and saw several bee species in quick succession, including the first time I actually got a cuckoo bee. I'm not sure which one, but maybe a Forest Cuckoo Bee …
It's difficult to separate White- and Buff-tailed Bees, but this may be a Buff-tailed
This is definitely an Early Bumblebee
And a Honey Bee
And a couple of Hoverflies, starting with a Marmalade Fly (Episyrphus Balteatus)
And a Pellucid Fly (Volucella Pellucens)
Some Weevils are brightly coloured. I believe this blue-green critter is a Nettle Weevil appropriately on a nettle
My first grasshopper of the year. It is just a small one - a Common Green. It has a hitch-hiker on its hind leg
In no way am I a bug fan, but saw these in the garden and found them really interesting...
Some from Arne yesterday.. other than ants, bees and ladybird, I know no specifics about what they are... especially the last one... any help appreciated
