The Avalon Marshes is a great pace to see Cattle Egret. Yesterday I counted 117, I'm seeing them almost daily now.
They are visiting the UK in increasing numbers. They hang around close to cows because their hooves disturb the ground and this easy pickings for worms. I have even seen them in a field of sheep.
Last year it was in the news that cattle egrets have bred successfully in the Avalon Marshes for only the second time ever in the UK. There have been five nests of cattle egrets on site, producing 11 youngsters.

Great pictures Paul, have not yet seen any in the UK yet, seen them on trips to Southern Africa before. Shame Avalon Marsh is right across the country from Suffolk.

Lovely photos Nigel. Ours are also around the vines a lot in the winter & anywhere they are dredging ditches or ploughing. We used to do counts of them on their roosting spots & they are impressive when a big flock fly over your head on their way to the trees. I'm sure you'll see them more & more in the UK.

Superb photos, Paul. It's good to see that these birds are beginning to become more established in the UK. The south west is the ideal habitat for them with all the dairy cattle. They are such characterful birds.
