Well here goes, for better or worse, another year of moths. The old thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/196070/mostly-moths-2018/1221500#1221500
To start us off a couple of silly ones that came to greet the first trap of the year on the night of the 1st to 2nd january. It was around 6-7°C all night & frosts ever since so I gave it a go.
A Double-striped Pug
& same one closed
& White Speck
Nothing earth-shattering, but a start!
Best wishes

Oops, put this in butterfly thread in error... My Mum spotted this in her garden..Elephant Hawk Moth to be?
Precious eggs from Garden Tiger hand delivered by Sandra today & a chance to see the poor Mummy who expired after laying all these eggs ...
Eggs are now 5 days old
Thank you Sandra, shall keep my fingers crossed for hatching & hope to get any caterpillars through the winter to enable pupation in the Spring!
Quite forgot to post that I had a Jersey Tiger too in my moth trap on Saturday night but couldn't get any decent pics of it til I set it free on Sunday ... had popped it in Butterfly house overnight in case it was female & likely to lay eggs ... think it was a male, such a lively critter too!
Blurry wings as it prepared to take off & showing underwing damage
A most impressive moth which I'd never seen before!
