We spent the last day on the reserve today beffore heading back down the M6 but before we left I had to go feed "my" friendly Water Rail some more live worms; it is getting so ridiculous that he is almost coming to my call lol
I put together a very quick photo slide show with a couple of clips in it taken today; haven't really edited it much so the clips have a slight couple of blurry moments in it. We have now given this confiding Water Rail a nickname as it is so confiding and hence we are calling him (or her ! ) WALTER as in Sir Walter Rail-ey !!

I want to 'like' (or whatever the current equivalent is) this post but can't see where I should do that. Am I missing something?
Unicum arbustum haud alit duos erithacos

A very interesting looking bird Hazel, love the video and the music.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Lovely Hazel and I love the beautiful feather detail. Here's my like too.
Jenny
Kind regards
Thank you Jenny, this rail is so confiding I think they will have to re-write the book on it lol
Fabulous pics and video Hazy, Mr Walter Rail-ey is just ripe for picking up and taking home to your garden.
Lot to learn
lol Gaynor, I'm sure if I visited the reserve every day it would eventually hand feed if it got used to being fed live mealies each day ! When it was in the brook and I chucked out a mealie, it would immediately turn round and start heading towards them and come up out of the brook and in front of the feeding log as I laid the trail ! What a star this bird is.
Quite remarkable. It's surprising how some birds can be so trusting of humans but I never thought a Water Rail would be one of them. He/she certainly likes mealworms. Before your next visit you'll have to practice the squealing pig call and he'll come running to greet you.
