We had another little walk around some woods with a wild-flower strip between it & the sunflowers yesterday & came up with 18 species of butterfly. This was our first sighting this year of Short-tailed blue
& this one seems quite common this year Southern White Admiral, it was reluctant to show it's underside to had to go to ground level & look up!
& loads of Meadow Fritillarys again
I love them!
Best wishes

Very envious H, lovely pics to remind me what Butterflies actually look like!
Very nice Hazel.

We had the opposite problem with White Admirals - all underside shots - wouldn't open up at all!
"Let loose the Kraken!"
Very nice shots Hazel, I've not seen any of the UK Fritillaries yet, just never been around their habitat yet I suppose.
I was out mid day yesterday and the heat was draining to say the least but I did get some lovely sightings.
This included the Wall which was this year's first for me.
A lovely large Peacock was on show
A Red Admiral looking like it may not last for much longer.
It always saddens me that these beauties look so tattered before going over, having looked so stunning. Nothing lasts forever so we have to enjoy them while they last.
Finally a couple shots of my favourite the Small Copper, I'm glad I could use the macro yesterday seeing as recently I always encounter my favourites when I have my long lens.
Lovely shots WE, the Coppers are one of my favorites. The heat is too much for me today, been shut up in the house all day, it's 36°C in the shade!! I expect the butterflies are sheltering too.
Yes, I love the Coppers too. Some lovely photos.

Thanks Hazel and Christine!
Wow Hazel, 36 degrees in the shade is crazy! I remember being in Hong Kong for a holiday a few years ago and it was 36 degrees in mid-day in the open which was very rough to say the least. I can't imagine what it would be like over in France when the same temperature is in the shade. Better keep hydrated!
Had a walk on my old patch that is no more just tarmac and concrete and some green that is out of bounds and in places it still looks familiar :(
Just three pictures of a small copper, I did see a couple of dragons but they never landed and getting near with a macro would have been out of the question.
stunning pics Jim, what a lovely butterfy to see
