It was a cold, windy and very beautiful day on the Suffolk coast today so after wrapping up seriously warmly we headed out to Aldeburgh, where there had been reports of some interesting birds. Following directions from some helpful birders we parked at the Martello tower (Suffolk's northernmost) and looked around. My first sighting was a few of these beautiful little waders:
I see these virtually everywhere I go on the coast but I never tire of them.
That's better - a front view!
A hint of movement reveals a snow bunting!
I got a bit carried away with the photos - mainly because I hadn't seen them before but also because it was really windy and I could feel the lens shaking!
They didn't seem at all fussed at the knot of people standing watching them.
This one is showing a lovely white underside. They must be a stunning sight in summer with their white feathers.
There were five of them about.
A last picture!
Got to have a herring gull glowing in the sunlight!
I did briefly wonder if this might be a whimbrel but I think I'll go along with Sue C and say it's a curlew. Thanks, Sue!
It's certainly a lovely looking bird.
I love this cheeky brent goose!
Finishing with an immature gull.
Enjoy!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Well captured Clare, they are lovely little birds and I am only slightly jealous!! Your immature gull is also glossy and stylish.
Lot to learn
Well done on the Snow finches Clare & also for making the most of a sunny day (even if it was cold). I love the waders too.
Best wishes

Never seen a snow bunting, so I'm quite jealous! How pretty they are. Enjoyed your pics, as ever, Clare.
Clare, Congratulations on seeing your first Snow Buntings! They are gorgeous little birds. (And the rest are lovely as well!)
Kind regards, Ann
Well done on your first Snow Buntings Clare they are such trusting, confiding little birds aren't they?
Regards Shane
My Photos in Flickr.
I'm always amazed at how well they vanish into the shingle - if you don't see their movement, the first sight is normally them flitting further along the beach!
