An afternoon snack at Felixstowe Ferry.

It being a lovely, bright afternoon locally I headed down to the Ferry to see what was about.  As I headed to the waterfront this brazen corvid made sure it opened the thread:

The colours of that tail are just beautiful.

Are these great black-backs building up to the breeding season already?  One seemed to be guarding the other.

This young great black-back is getting the hang of displaying the adults' hauteur.

It's usual for the local fishermen to feed the gulls with their fish scraps.  The gulls clearly appreciate this very much.

Bath time for this herring gull.

There were three of these lovely little turnstones about - it was quite sweet to see them pottering around the gulls!  The gulls paid them no attention.

This young herring gull is enjoying what's on offer.

'I'm going to bite your backside if you don't tone down the attitude'.

There were four of these huge gulls about this afternoon, including the youngster.

Further upriver this redshank was minding his own business.

I really hope this is a grey plover - I don't think I've seen one here before.

This black-headed gull watches the bigger gulls from a safe distance!

A companionable pair - one guards as the other preens.

Managing to peer back at me despite being on one leg!

Enjoy, as always.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
