Hello folks.
I saw a flock of seagulls mobbing a heron on the canal. Has anyone seen this before, or know why?
Thanks
Pipit
LOL Sorry Pipit Was just showing folks the reason why herons get mobbed so much .... They will eat anything that is within the strike range of there beak.
I think they are the most amasing bird and can sit watching one for hours when Im out at the river. (Sometimes I wonder why I take a fishing rod I spend more time standing in the river watching the birds around me than I do fishin) lol But then again a nice wild brown trout makes a fine supper for me too :D
Cheers
AL
If its no fun Yer no doin it right!
Hi Al, or should I call you Mr Video Nasty!!!! (Big smile)
I suppose fishing for a nice wild brown trout is much the same as a heron fishing for his supper, even if he did catch a bunny!! (another big smile!!)
Lovely picture of the goldfinch to brighten the subject!!
Cheers, Linda.
See my photos on Flickr
LOL I wonder if I should have put up that link now!!
Sparrow Its not easy to catch a Brown trout where I fish . I had a comptition with a pair of Osprays last season and they won hands down before they left they were 4 trout up on me.
Oh aye and then there is the otter cub last year that kept swimming around me mooching fish off me while i was in the middle of the river . (What is a man to do when ye see those beautiful dark eyes looking up at you pleadingly?) Aye you got it ye give them the trout!
Cant get a better day on the river than that!
Don't worry about the video Al, just give a warning next time. I have seen a Heron take a water vole but I was surprised by the rabbit. I still love to watch them as they stay so still for so long and then pounce.
You are forgiven AL. After all, I posted the photo of our local heron taking a duckling!!
Here's another piccy of him, not content with his duckling breakfast and now eying up the reed warblers!!
