Whilst driving to Calder Vale on Saturday we spotted a poor pheasant being dive bombed in a field on the side of the road. We pulled up and got out to have a quick nosey and didn't recognise the birds. Quickly grabbed the camera (please excuse the blurry photo's) and clicked away - we didn't want to get too close as the birds seemed aggitated enough as it was! When I got home and consulted the good old RSPB identifier I found them to be a pair of lapwings. I guess they had a nest nearby and didn't want blundering Mr Pheasant upsetting things :) After a couple of minutes he wandered into the next field and left the pair to themselves, as did we.
Great shots there and welcome to the forums Hope you post more photos .
Cheers

If its no fun Yer no doin it right!
HI Baenrahel, Good action captures. The poor pheasant was probably wondering what he had done to deserve that attack.
Great action shots - right place right time
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
Great shots. Lapwings can be very aggresive when trying to defend a nest or chicks. They will often feign injury in an attempt to lure potential predators away. I wonder whether the one on the ground in th first pic was doing that or perhaps it had just landed.

I watched lapwing take on a black swan. It sort of won. I think the swan was just passing by really, but it passed a bit quicker than intended!
