I made a new batch of pastry

New batch of pastry so the Blue Tits and Long Tailed Tits were getting stuck in !

    @ Wendy.. Lovely Vids ( as always)Spadgers are so funny, love how they watch each other,one of my lot picked up a bit of straw and down they zoomed and started a tug of war, quite funny to watch.

    @  Hazy. Daughter says thanks, she has just upgraded her lens.and loved your Flkr...

    Hazel I remember you telling me about how to make your pastry which seems ages ago now but I remember making some and it encouraged a female black cap into my garden and it couldn’t get enough of it neither could the starlings, when they discovered it they brought all their mates and it was like the Alfred Hitchcocks film the birds, they adored it. They were then joined by the wood pigeons who were underneath the feeders picking up the bits that fell to the ground. So if anybody that wants to encourage birds into the garden ask Aunty Hazel for the recipe. Lol

    Just made pastry this morning which I have now placed in greaseproof and placed in the fridge for a few hours :     

    250 gms wholemeal flour or brown  (or just plain flour if you don't have wholemeal/brown)

    125 gms block beef dripping

    1 eating apple grated

    large handful of grated mild cheddar cheese

    handful of birds suet pellets and a few crushed sunflower hearts or peanuts

    pure apple juice to bind together 

    (Important thing to remember, is not to make the pastry too sticky for the birds) ...... as dry as you can get it but so it can be moulded into pastry balls or break off bits of pastry to place around twigs in the garden.    Also pinch off bits to strew on the ground for the Blackbird, Robins, Dunnock, Chaffinch and other ground feeding birds.
