The great thing about living in Felixstowe is that I am very close to the southern edge of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB - Felixstowe Ferry is actually within it. When I took my camera out yesterday I tried to sneak in some scenic snaps among the usual birdy ones. I couldn't leave out the birds entirely, though:
A stunning herring gull in flight
Looking bemused and slightly fluffy!
Not sure whether these are dunlin, turnstones or something else entirely.
I'm pretty sure these are ringed plovers, though.
'Grub up, lads!'
One of the Ferry's friendliest fishermen heads out. Lovely technique with those oars!
These two were persevering magnificently against an incoming tide.
A determined spadger.
A big slice of local history - this is Bawdsey Manor.
Two of our Martello towers. Felixstowe has at least four of them.
A cormorant flies across the breaking wave.
I have a huge soft spot for this sort of boat!
What a beautiful sight.
I hope you've all enjoyed this selection.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Great pics Clare - one of my favourite parts of the country (although I may be biased because it's so good for birding) except when there's an easterly wind blowing in winter!
"Let loose the Kraken!"
