Oh well, no sooner said than done. All you budding entomologists or photographers or anyone who likes nature, you can put your insect photos here!
I'll kick off with a few that I've had lately. This first is called a Mantis Fly & is a cross between a Fly & Mantis (funnily enough) & is in the Neuroptera family, which is a mixed bunch anyway, my first & I had 3 of them around the moth trap
& a Rhinocerus Beetle which was also attracted to the light & are quite rare now around here, he really was fabulous, very impressive,
& this Frelon was also in the moth trap, but seemed quite docile as long as I kept my distance!
& some Damsel flies, an Azure Damselfly (thanks for the ID Aiki)
a Large Red Damsel
& from early may a proper fly from the Dipteras, anyone know the English name, I think it's latin name is Otites lamed,
I usually only take photos of flies with interesting wings as I am hopeless at identiying them!
Thanks for looking & maybe you can post some of yours!!
Best wishes

@ Wendy, what a pretty looking bug and nice it has a winter home in your porch, you did well to ID it , there are so many different varieties i wouldn't know where to begin.
Mike found this in the loft space and assume it is the beginning of a wasp nest although season is finished now - I hope !
our loft space is quite low in the dormer area and OH keeps forgetting to Quack Duck as he goes in and out so i was playing nursemaid to a nasty gash on his thatchless bonce yesterday !! He has cracked his head so many times going in and out of that darn loft he now places a red baseball cap by the door to remind him and when I asked how he did this yet again with the hat as a reminder by the door he replied "I was on my way out of the loft space and I was wearing the hat" rofl !!! poor chap, I shouldn't laugh - lol lol lol !!!

Por Mike, at least the blood didn't show too much being a red coloured cap! Lol & he did manage not to break this very interesting object (I'm the one ducking now to avoid that missile!). Had something in my old shed, looked like a wine glass hanging from the roof, didn't have my cam then!

Hi Wendy, we get fed up with these "bugs" coming in for the winter. Ours are maily the plain green shield bugs & Ron found one at the foot of the bed when he stripped it back the other day. Cheeky little thing.
Hazy, (Sorry about Mikes head), it looks like a wasp or hornets nest to me too. They may have used it but abandon it in the winter. They are usually harmless unless disturbed. Not like the paper wasps that have honeycomb nests & attack you as soon as they see you within striking distance.
Lol Wendy, he obviously didn't hit it hard enough to knock some sense in to that brain of his ! I can't believe how many times he has caught his head on that door - I'm running out of lint dressings lol
@ Hazel, thanks for the info, it was a bad year for wasps this year, tons of them around and probably larger nests that we have no way of getting to in the loft; they do love dormer roofs !
I'm useless at the nursing end of things. Years ago Ron put a chisel in his knee & shouted for help, he had to sit me down & make a cup of tea & then sort his knee out himself! LOL
Another time I got my finger between a pick & a rock, I ran in the house & shoved it in a bowl of cold water. As soon as I looked at my finger I was on the floor. I managed to get the bowl of water onto the floor too & sat there until Ron came back about half an hour later. Every time I stood up I got too dizzy to go anywhere. I'm no Florence Nightingale!! My finger is still flat though!
