A trip along the Esplanade yesterday revealed many Gulls doing the dance!! Here are couple of short vids of the technique ...
Sightings as I drove along were quite unusual ... saw group of about five RN Parakeets flying away from beachside & after seeing the gull dance, & after I had put cam away, saw what I though were extra large gulls flying towards me ... two lovely Swans (been for a chilly dip in the sea?)!! Wow

Brilliant vids, Wendy. I've heard about this technique but never actually witnessed it and it works. Just shows that gulls are smarter than worms.

lol Wendy, fanstastic video clips filming the Gull doing the soft shoe shuffle so effectively; never ceases to amaze me how very clever birds are ....... except for one similar looking Gull who was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and didn't get out of the way of the ball in time (was watching the 20/20 Big Bash on Sky TV yesterday) ..... the gull appeared motionless after being hit and a fielder moved it to the side of the ground ... about 5 mins later there was a roar around the stadium and much applause as the Gull got up out of its unconscious state and ambled back on to the pitch no worse for wear other than a bit unsteady on its feet ! some gulls never learn lol
HERE IS THE LINK Its worth viewing knowing the gull suffered no ill effects :)

Played both videos together. Difficult picking a winner. Muchly enjoyed,Wendy.
Nice clips. I've seen the BHG's doing this on the open area near my house. They tend to do it away from the main group and the last individual that I watched was clearly an expert as it frequently stopped to gobble up earthworms.

Fascinating. I've never witnessed this before, clever!
Back along the Esplanade on Wednesday & couldn't resist the 'Gull stomp!' Looks like one showing the other how to do it!
lol Wendy, I just love these clips of the stomping Gulls - just fantastic to see, very delicate shoe shuffle ! thanks for sharing. Were you sitting in the car as I can hear the radio lol !! unless its radio gull gull lol
Brilliant stuff, Wendy. I reckon this would have made a good accompaniment.
