I know you might not be able to help with this, but I will try anyway. Went to Sculthorpe more today and at last saw the Redpoll. My first and very pleased. But was it a common or a lesser. I know Tichwell has lesser redpolls, but I wondered which was more likely. Sorry no photo, only saw it for a short time, noisy people in the hide. Also they report a Chiffchaff this morning, spring is on its way.
Coots are fun to watch
Hi!
It is most likely to have been a lesser redpoll as this is our most common species in Britain. At Titchwell we currently have all three species- lesser, mealy and Arctic redpoll. They are tricky to tell apart and in most cases it will be a lesser.
Cheers, Jaz
Thanks. i did think it was that checking the RSPB guide which appeared to suggest that the common ones don't come to the east coast.
