Having received news that the Knots were giving good displays, we set off at 4.45 in the morning until a lovely stary sky. By the time we reached Snettisham it was chucking it down. Saw quite a few knots, sat there for 3 hours waiting for them to fly off. As soon as the tide goes out, they all fly off a a great cloud according to the video. No they didn't. They just sat there loking miserable. Occasionally they flapped their wings but that was it. A few brave souls did fly off but spectacular it wasn't. I think i am cursed at Snettisham.
Still there was plenty to see. The golden eyes were good to watch on the sea as they flew off, 100's of them. Did see what looked like an average sized gull, but it was totally dark coloured. Don' think it was a young Herring Gull, it was almost black all over. Any ideas what it could be? a Skua perhaps? i will try a put a video on You Tube of it, in the future
Coots are fun to watch
Hi theharrier
sounds like it could be a skua. Can you put a stills image in the gallery?
I have now put the photo on the gallery, very poor quality, I am afraid.
Looks good for great skua
Brilliant, thanks for that. I haven't seen a Skua before, so that is a first.
